The original idea unfolds as language. Through the verb, it touches things; it shakes up matter. Those who conjure the earth can intuit the force that mobilizes all creation, that gives it breath, that sets everything in motion. One realizes, then, that no body passes over the same ground twice. The second time, the soil is no longer the same: it blossoms, dissipates, turns into water, or dust. Neither is the body: pushed by the rhythm of experience, it transforms itself every step of the way.
Terra and Temperature is the ground and the masses in transmutation. It is the ongoing manifestation under the warm light that has descended from the blue. It is the cosmic substance poured out; the energy that spreads with the sound that comes from a kick drum, that spills out its breath, that makes shapes and colors emerge... And they organize and disorganize themselves; they run loose and climb hillsides; they throw themselves into dives, sing their melodies, jump in revelry, take flight; they turn into plants, turn into animals, turn into people, or ascend in enchantment. Little by little or by many, these shapes and colors meet up in embraces; they constitute horizons and friendships, forests and cities, that stand or fall apart, coming and going as in the choreography of atomic dynamics.
In a non-linear journey, free of predefined paths, Terra and Temperature proposes a torrid, labyrinthine inflection, that sometimes comes close, and sometimes takes distance towards broadening perspectives—be they visual, mental, or spiritual. From embryo to archetypes; from minimal stimuli to radical appearances; from interior and psychological spaces to open stages; from aggregations to dissolutions; from trances to mildness, the project exposes aspects of a social imaginary, its culture and memory, while invested above all in the junctures where their innate fractal complexity, bubbling multiplicity, and ultra vitality entwine.
With a free flowing energetic combination—with neither an end, nor a beginning—, Terra and Temperature creates an ecosystem composed of these testimonies brought to the surface by means of listening to paint or pencil, wood or stone, concrete or clay. From them, genuine records of the everyday emerge, disclosing the struggles, the festivals, and the core devotions of a country that can only be understood through the expressions of a multitude of existences, confluences, and embodiments. There is not, therefore, a defined method of approach. What hits the senses is a realization of a shared vigor that accounts for the freedom to both conform and dissociate the substratum in local accents. What ravishes the perception is the dance of creation taking ground with the highest intensity, changing everything all the time, and always in a typical, singular way. That is precisely when it gives the real dimension of the larger nature that composes and contains us, making the common, previous intention clear. It is from what is unique that the universal is revealed.
Where the sun burns on trunks and loins, drenching the hills, bays, and plains in yellow-red: the rocks melt, the green grows, faces light up. From everywhere, the inexorable risks of the course and its crossroads leap out; yet every danger is faced head-on—or from another angle—with a firm posture and a loose waistline, sharpening intuition, exercising dribbling skills. This is how the dynamics of enigmas, spells, and suggestions of language flow; and how cracks open to provoke bifurcations of meaning. All that is inapprehensible, inherently incomplete; whose vivacity can never be said exactly.
The energies, atmospheres, landscapes and bodies present here, establish themselves as openings for the vital pulsations in their innumerable world-making possibilities. At the intersections between literal, figurative discourse and sensations, deductions, and abstractions, they sew the invitation to experience esoteric, intangible, and subjective phenomena in all their material and aesthetic inventiveness. When the brilliance of ecstasy, the sense of urgency, and the specific heat are inscribed into life.
